i went to the office opening meeting for hr block today. it confuses me in 5 different ways that i just love going to work here. it's more like a clubhouse than an office in some ways. perhaps because of our common quirky bond, perhaps because no one *has* to work here. it's part time/seasonal work so we only do this during one time of the year. that or it's the professionalism. i have clients. i have a key to the office. in any case, while i'm dreading the time commitment on top of the 40hr workweek, i am glad to be back.

i had to leave the meeting early due to a vet emergency. jeff called saying that something was wrong with rumble's foot. it turned out to be a really nasty bitewound from another cat. sigh, at least we were able to go to our own vet instead of the 'emergency vet'. i mostly regret missing the end of the meeting because i had some questions for the office manager and wanted to schmooze with the new tax preparers more. oh well.

in other news, sylvia is VERY VERY close to 2. she drove me absolutely batty today. i took her with me to check out the end of year sales at jcp. i know, not the best choice, but that's where the whole balance thing comes in sometimes. translation: if jeff is going to spend his weekends taking care of sylvia, i'm going to get much less solo shopping time. it's a good thing she's gotten so good at giving hugs.

her sleep schedule has also been absolutely in the toilet. she had a pretty nasty cough/congestion virus which translated to her spending a lot of time sleeping in our bed. that's ok, but now that she's mostly better, she's still waking up every hr. we've started some tough love measures and we'll see how it goes. i do think we impressed upon her the importance of eating her dinner today. while she was sick, she was barely eating at all and she's never been the best at eating. so even after she got better she was eating lousy and yelling, 'i'm hungry' in the middle of the night. sigh, we warned her several times that she wasn't going to get to eat anything after she was 'all done' and each time we reminded her she would eat another nibble of banana.

on the other hand, she is getting extremely good at talking. there's the occasional blast of gibberish, but we're more often getting subjects and verbs. one of her christmas presents was a set of extremely cheap tiny board books in a box. she is enraptured by them (pity us) and will often demand to read the same one five times in a row (please, send help). on the up side, this is leading to some basic pattern recognition which should eventually lead to reading. ah, project bookworm progresses well.

more later, i should be sleeping, but i had to stop this posty for wakeup #1. i have the day off by myself tomorrow and can't decide what to do first. i think i'm scrapping the idea of a complete teardown of the fishtank for a thorough cleansing of the utility room in preparation for seed starting. i'm also going to put together my new bar cabinet that i got for an absolute steal at target. oh yes, and i'm hoping to finish the second scarf for sylvia's teachers, do ALL of my work laundry and take a nap. oh yes, and perhaps make some phone calls about the whole career change thingy.

I think the sleep thing may be normal for 2 year olds! We put Ryan to sleep in his toddler bed, but he wakes up in the early AM and comes to snuggle with parents (and kick and squirm) for another hour or so.

We do the same thing with food...eat this or you don't get anything other than your bedtime cup of milk before sleep...and he blithely doesn't eat it. *sigh*

Good luck with your taxes this season, may your clients be bountiful but your time burdens light :-)

the early morning snuggle is acceptable, and even delightful at times. what is not ok is the reversion to waking every 1-2 hrs. last night sylvia was a virtual angel and only awoke twice before the early morning snuggle time. she was also really easy to get back to her crib even though i did not even offer milk.

thanks for the luck wish. i'm feeling much more rested after a 'just me' day off. i think i'll make this a tradition before tax season even after possible employment changes.
