sleep oddness
May. 15th, 2003 01:31 pmok, i know during a growth spurt, sylvia throws away her schedule. but, yesterday was just wacky.
sylvia nursed for a solid hr before the open house at the new pediatrician's office. (no free formula samples, a decided lack of drug co literature, and a recommendation from a trusted source). she would not sleep at the open house although she was obviously tired.
she did not fall asleep in the car on the way home, but when it stopped. after dinner she was fussing horribly, (after nursing) would not sleep while i held her and wouldn't relax in her crib under the mobile. so jeff tried some tummy time and she fell asleep. we were both watching her, so we let her sleep. i wonder how many of her sleep troubles are due to the whole 'back to sleep' campaign. we still put her to sleep on her back, but i am eagerly awaiting the time when we can let her sleep however she chooses. when she woke up, i nursed her to sleep and headed to bed. she started fussing and could not relax, so i nursed her on the other side while lying in bed. she fell into a light sleep. i was thoroughly scrambled at this point and decided to try putting her in her crib. she took it. it is unprecedented for sylvia to fall asleep by herself in her crib. i'm very proud of her. she only slept for an hr, but that was pretty good. when i've managed to get her in her crib during deep sleep, she's generally only lasted a half hr. but, the rest of the night she was miserable. sleeping through the night is defined as sleeping 6 hrs or more. she's been doing that reliably since the last growth spurt. the past week 3-4 days she has been waking more frequently, but that's ok since all bets are off and she's generally just a bit hungry. however, every time she woke up last night, she was mad. i don't know how else to explain it. i've checked her temperature and i keep peering in her mouth for signs of new teeth, but have not seen any. her diaper was not an issue, although checking it definitely was. sigh. i have no idea how many times she woke up last night.
i do have some hopes that when she's done with this growth spurt we'll be able to transition her to the crib. i had done research on co-sleeping and decided it was definitely safe, but not for me.
h_postmortemus and i take up all of our queen sized bed and i like my covers. sylvia slept in her crib just fine for the first two weeks. that ended once she became aware enough of where she was. i would nurse her, rock her, etc and it didn't matter for how long, she woke up the second her head hit the crib and would not be consoled in the crib. after a few nights when i literally never go to bed, i gave up. we've slept together since then and it has worked out better than i had hoped, but i would still like her to sleep in her crib.
