ah, the baby sleeps - multi day update

this morning the teething seemed to have hit a bit of a lull, but this afternoon, it was in full force. h_postmortemus thought that he could actually hear the sounds of tooth scraping on chewy bear, but i couldn't tell. her gums do seem to feel sharper. sigh, we will just have to wait. my nice neighbor is going to loan us a diaper changing table so that will help with the great room rearrange. we had been using the changing bin in the playard, but with sylvia's crib in her room, there will not be enough space for it. also, we are going to start using it as a playard so mama can garden! that is, when the temperatures are not in the child abuse range, grr. we've got netting for it so at least we won't need to worry about mosquitos.

when my mom sold her house in tallahassee (my childhood home *sniff), i took as many daylilies as i could out of her garden. it was a nasty day and nearly raining, but i still got a good bunch. i transplanted them from florida to north carolina in february, and during a drought to boot, but they finally seem to be forgiving me. at some point i will post their pictures somewhere. there are three main kinds that i got from her. one is a fairly normal looking yellow on the inside, garnet (my mom is a major fsu fan) along the outer rim. the second is a large yellow spiderish shape. however, the one i wait for every year is a triple decker orange extravaganza. the first year it didn't bloom at all. the second i got *one* bloom total. being a daylily, the bloom was gone the next day and i hadn't had time to get my camera. this is the third year and there have been at least 4 blooms so far and on 2 different plants. i had no idea i had two of these. whenever something blooms really well in my garden, i get the idea that i need lots of it. in winter, i want to devote my life to gathering pansies. in spring i go azalea mad and now in summer i want more more more daylilies. i am even more relieved that i have really and truly located the full sun patch of my front yard. now i can start filling it in with all the really sexy full sun plants i've been thinking i couldn't grow.

in the veggie garden, we have now celebrated the second tomato of the season, hurrah! the garden is now starting to help the grocery budget in a small way. we try to have salads once a week, and this week we didn't need to buy tomatoes or peppers. the planting this season was done in small bursts and the extra plants that i planted ended up being banana and jalapeno peppers instead of extra bell peppers. oh well, at least the flat itself was not mislabeled. i am very eagerly awaiting the ripening of nearly a dozen grape tomatoes. they are like gorgeous green jewels. the first yellow pear tomatoes have started forming and they look adorable already. again, i cannot wait. there's a german johnson tomato that looks like it might have terminal cracking, but i'm going to give it a chance. i threw out a celebrity tomato that had been partially 'et by some sort of bug. as usual, the tomatoes seem to be outgrowing the vermin and diseases. i cannot say the same for the cabbage family. i have a whole square of veggies that have been obliterated by assorted worms. oddly enough, it looks like i might have the beginnings of some sort of brussel sprouts. i doubt i'll get a chance to eat them, but maybe i can at least watch their development. sprouts are the oddest looking plants and it's one of the reasons i decided to grow it. next time i grow the broccoli family, it will be with floating row covers. i don't want them to bloom anyways, so it should work out just fine.

h_postmortemus was showing me some of the non-computer related job roles on Brainbench and i'm actually considering trying to get certified as 'editor' or technical writer. it would be hard to get the time to concentrate right now and we need our rubles, but it would sure be better than going back to insurance. i have two job dilemmas right now. i need something on the weekends to add to the income flow and i still don't know what i want to be when i grow up. i enjoy editing, but have absolutely nothing to put on a resume to show it. i also need to 'dumb down' my resume if i'm going to have a prayer of getting some of the simple retail type stuff that is available for weekend work. i'm feeling a little better about money because i have received my first paycheck for the mini-temp jobs i did in may and the check at the end of june will be huge $60 *laugh*. however, i'm getting the hang of it and i'm starting to be a lot less stressed. i've gotten downright good at finding my way to cary.

i was feeling tired this evening, so h_postmortemus and i swapped roles and jeff bathed sylvia, while i read her a story afterwards. the change was nice. i got to watch the bathing procedure and jeff got to see the really insane grin she has when she gets out of the bath. i found reading to her with the board books was much better than the reading to her i had done when she was young with winnie the pooh books. the board books are much more engaging to her so she didn't fuss as much, that and they're really really short ;).

the last mommy and me class was today. i could have re-upped and strongly considered it even during the class, but i feel it's time to move on. at it's heart it's a low impact aerobics class with nothing for the baby but the stimulation of seeing other people. she'll be six months old in a week and that's the earliest age for which i have seen classes. i know the parks have some sort of art class and we're already signed up for swimming :). got to get her a suit and some swim diapers.
