the hinterlands of durham
Jul. 13th, 2003 04:02 pmwe went off yesterday to visit a friend of mine who is moving out of state. we grew up in the same town and went to the same high school together and the same college so it was rather fortuitous that we ended up in the same region. however, durham is fairly distant from raleigh and she was working on a doctorate and was quite busy so we did not see each other as much as we would have liked.. now, she's moving off to kentucky and i have no idea when we'll ever be able to visit there. sigh. i am glad that we were able to reconnect our friendship.we did not see each other much at UF at all. i was doing a lot of exploring and changing and did not have as much time for high school friends as i should have had. sometimes i feel a little out of my league with her bio grad school crowd, but she's always made me feel welcome. i expressed regrets that she had gotten a doctorate while all i had was an AA and she pointed out that i'd also gotten married, a house and a kid. oh yea, i guess those things do count for something ;).
in any case, it was a good gathering. she provided sushi and heath bar cookies, while another guest brought an oriental chicken salad and we brought a spinach broccoli quiche. it all ended up going together quite well, both food and personalities. we had a good time and stayed about a half hour after the other guests had left only to be greeted by two latecomers so it was almost like attending two parties.
