swimming class 2 of 3

i woke up to a gloomy and rainy day. i had already asked while signing up, but i called the pool just to confirm. they don't cancel or postpone classes for anything short of lightning. bleh. i realized that it was actually quite warm, although it did not seem so, and that sylvia probably wouldn't mind at all. it was just hard to get excited about swimming in the rain. from what i could tell, most of the other moms showed up too and the teacher was very encouraging about how this way we wouldn't need to worry quite so much about sunscreen.

well, by the end of the class, sylvia was crying and i think it was the cold. that or the rushing to the wall bit scared her. so i spent the last bit of the class mostly holding her and demonstrating what we could be doing so that she would get at least some exposure. she still does not seem to understand what she is supposed to be doing when i say 'splash splash splash', but i'm not surprised based on the level of understanding she has shown in general. i'm sure if we took this class again in a month, she'd get a lot more out of it, but this is the last class of the summer.

hopefully, as h_postmortemus and i take her to the pool and start reinforcing the teachings she will start to understand. next year she will be in a much better state to understand things and hopefully the fact that it will not be her first class will help a bit as well. the older students (whopping 2.5) definitely showed more rebellion. i was still very envious of the moms who could shower with their babies, but i think sylvia really needs to be able to stand up before i can start trying things like that.
