actually, i just didn't feel like titling yet another post 'random update'. i don't really feel like updating, but a few days have passed so goes nothing:

sylvia is now reliably sleeping in her crib. she is not getting to sleep by herself, but this is the home of 'we takes what we can get' and we are happy.

on the downside, sylvia has now had her first illness. she got a cold which i suspect i got in an airport somewhere between here and michigan. there was some fairly awful coughing followed by a lot of phlegmy spitup. however, she's doing much better now and might actually sleep tonight in her crib. the past few nights we have been keeping her close as she wasn't sleeping well and frankly, the congestion made us a bit too nervous to leave her in her room alone.

sylvia is rapidly becoming 'the one who crawls'. she still only makes a brief forward foray before retreating, but she's getting the motion down really well. the pulling up thing is also a bit ominous. [livejournal.com profile] h_postmortemus's comment on seeing her try to climb the wall starting with the changing table was, 'so she can't walk yet, but she can climb ladders?' progress, and yet it still doesn't seem real.

despite the fact that the garden is going feral, i still got a pretty good harvest yesterday: 5 tomatoes, a half dozen jalepenos and countless banana peppers. it sounds good, but the bed that had lettuce in early spring has entirely bolted and gone to grass. the brassica bed (cabbage and brussel sprouts) still has the piteous stalks sticking out that the cabbage worms left, one bed was not planted at all this season *moment of silence*, and the eggplants are being balky.

there was a minor crisis with the wee one care, but everyone kept calm, mostly, and all was well. ok, i locked myself out of the neighbors' house, but i still feel pretty stupid about it and would like not to discuss it.

p.s. finished reading 'diplomatic immunity' by lois mcmaster bujold. another wonderful vorkosigan novel. currently reading: book 2 of the potter saga (so-so), callahans' key by spider robinson and a book of short stories by cordwainer smith.
