sylvia has been doing some odd things with her naps lately. this is partially due to teething (her two uppers are now mostly through the gums, but it appears that her sleep habits are continuing to mature and she may want to sleep at different times. tonight she got to sleep at 8:30 and it appears as of 11:20[.5] that she is down for the night. this has given us an absolutely ridiculous amount of time. i usually squeeze in my homework between 10 and 11pm. today i was done by 10pm. oh, and that includes an hour long break for cocoa[1] and Enterprise. [livejournal.com profile] h_postmortemus and i went down and shelved books. without the books we had purged from the shelves, it was possible to shelve almost all of them. the shelves look incredible. for the first time in years, i actually had the time to not only arrange books by author, but sort them down to the proper order in the series. it felt really good. there are some discontinuities in the V-W section. i have no idea what happened. it looks like a few shelves spilled and were put up backwards. non-fiction has hit some sort of crisis. jeff was organizing those and we were left with a 2 foot stack of non-fiction. however, some of them are coffee table books that should go on the display shelves in the living room.

in any case, the punchline to the whole procedure is that i have added 4 books to the 89 unread for a new total of 94. one is Darwin's Radio which i need to read before Darwin's Children which was already on the unread shelf. i was strongly advised not to read Radio while i was pregnant. there is also Moby Dick, which i knew very well i had not read yet but had gotten downstairs somehow as had Alien Light by Nancy Kress. the fourth straggler was Wall around a Star which is the sequel to Farthest Star. i really do want to read this, but Farthest created such a strong feeling of desolation that it has been hard to gear myself up for it. i should be starting on the epic project soon, as i am almost done with _The Best of the Man-Kzin Wars_ which i picked up more or less randomly from the ominous stack before it got organized. more later, must go to bed so i can read :).

[.5] of course, after i say this, some dogs barking outside wake her up and she needs both mama milkie and papa rocking.
[1] thanks to penzey's and alton brown. that was the best cocoa i've ever had in my entire life. i used the natural rather than the dutch that alton recommends. the marshmallows are definitely not optional. i wonder if i can find mug shaped marshmallows. they make everything else, surely someone has thought of this.
