yesterday

as if yesterday was not cool enough. there was even more coolness to occur. the raleigh aquarium society had it's social meeting last night. i hadn't been able to go to any other meetings this year what with the arrival of sylvia and the hrblock classes. i don't think the fish club is ever going to have the hold on me it once did, but it was nice to see people again. this is one of those deals where the club provides the meat and everyone brings a side dish, dessert etc. i dithered endlessly over what to bring and finally decided to go with my proven winner: green bean casserole. i went all fancy with the cheddar fried onions and cream of asparagus soup, but it was still fairly basic, once again - a decimated container. i felt good on many levels about this. for a small investment in a can of fried onions(everything else was standard pantry issue), i got a tasty and varied meal. i love it when these shindigs actually work out the way their supposed to.

then came the raffle, as this was the annual social meeting, it is often the only meeting that some members attend. therefore, the club is putting it's best foot forward and has serious loot for the raffle table. i bought a larger than normal number of tickets ($10) to match the niftier than normal prizes and proceeded to cross my fingers. with a little luck and an uncanny disinterest on the person with the 1st and 2nd winning tickets, i came home with the 50ft python. i had already owned a 25 ft python, which is literally 2 feet short of one of my tanks. now, i've got one which is not only twice as long, but has all new fittings. w00t, i say, w00t. now, i just need to decide what to do with the old one. i don't have access to polls, but feel free to leave feedback below.

possible destinies of the 25 ftr:

  • donate it to the next fish club raffle (very good karma and would get me at least one raffle ticket)

  • put it up on ebay and possibly recoup my $10 raffle investment (very frugal, suitable to current job situation)

  • give to a fellow aquarist just to be a nice person. (promoting the hobby, also good karma)

  • keep it to use on the new 100 gallon tank to be installed upstairs (good for scaring the bejeezus out of [livejournal.com profile] h_postmortemus[1])

[1] obviously, this option is a joke as i would still need an extension to reach the bottom of a 100 gallon tank.
