more brief randomness
Feb. 23rd, 2004 10:51 pmsomeday, i am actually going to compose a note that has a beginning middle and end, rather than a random list.
-sylvia has finally really figured out solid food. my skills have been somewhat unneeded (le sniff) although she is a long way from weaning. food recently consumed include: chicken soup, beef jerky (very small bits), quesadilla, wendy's frosty, bagel w/jam, bagel w/cream cheese, breadsticks, corn flake, p'zone (pizza hut's version of a calzone) and on and on and on. pizza hut has these nifty plastic containers with lids and a hole for a straw and they're small enough that sylvia can actually hold the container and feed herself. it seems to work much better than a sippy cup.
-more steps and in public! because of the hospitals fascist no-kid policy, there were several clusters of mom/grandmoms and babies in the waiting room. at one point there was a mom and her 7 week old girl and another mom and a 10 month old boy. the boy was much bigger than sylvia and was wearing shoes and looked like he could walk, but the mom explained that he couldn't, he just liked to stand. sylvia was naturally fascinated by him and so i put her down in the center of the area and told her to go ahead and walk over to him. now, sylvia can take a few steps, but they are few and far between. well, she stood her ground and then took one step, giggled happily and then took 2 more quick steps. everyone in the whole waiting area was cheering, it was so obvious that this was new for her. it was a nice bit of happiness, especially because i think that most of the other people in the waiting area were also taking turns visiting and watching the kids while visiting an ailing relative.
-throat still sore, doesn't feel as bad, but feels *similar* to when i had tonsilitis. ugh. i suppose i should go to the doc tomorrow :(. it doesn't help that i do a *lot* of talking in my job.
-if you ever need to go to baltimore, take 301 to avoid dc. if you can, stop for a picnic at Three Lakes Park in Henrico, VA?. lovely place, tons of playground equipment and people flying kites. i just wish we had time to really frolic instead of just watching others while we ate our sandwiches.
