i have been watching my friends list fill with exercise logs and i decided to join in the fun.

running:
monday 2.25 miles
today 2 miles

totally awesome. i am on the 5k running program now and it does a lot of stepping up and down before increasing. i should be up to 2.5 by next week. i have actually been working on increasing my speed in a minor way because i had starting going slower. as i already get passed by walking people (i am not joking), i decided that i needed to at least maintain. plus, at the current rate, i am going to start running out of workout time before i have hit the day's planned mileage.

actual stats:
1 mile best time: 17:30
recent tendencies: 20:00/mile (this is the amount of time that i budget for the days run)
2 miles today: 38:16

weight-training:
also in the awesome. during monday's class, i was feeling really good about running 2.25 miles and increasing at least half of my weights. i didn't remember until the last five minutes of class that the pain comes the next day - and i was right about that. hello ibuprofen! most things were feeling better this morning, but i was still feeling it in my arms. that was due to the bicep curls. i increased the weight last class, but it was definitely warranted. this class, i kept the weight the same at 40, but had to drop down to 30 for the last set just to get a full set in. sylvia weighs 38 lbs now so i used her as a demonstration model last night so i could show off to jeff. she totally loved it, and she was a bit easier to lift than the bar because she held on :).

i am continuing to increase weight on the leg press madly. i would expect to have the greatest fatigue problems with running beforehand with this machine, but that has not been the case. i have no idea what was going on when we did our calibration runs. my best guess is that i was ramping up to 2 miles at that point and my legs were already maxed out. that or i wrote down the add weight rather than the total weight, but i don't think so.

i am over my balance problems on the bench press. i'm up to +10 on each side. i keep forgetting how much the bar weighs, so i'm not recording the total. this is one exercise where i'm always going to increase very carefully. my partner is lifting +55 on each side. the prof said the first day that he has x number of classes to demonstrate today and he wasn't out to prove anything - then he lifted +90 on each side :p.

the 2 min crunches may BITE ME. this is the one exercise that i have decided cannot be done the same day as running. luckily, i don't need any equipment for this, so i'm going to try to get it in on my off days. maybe. seriously - 2 minutes? unfortunately, i think it's one of the mandatory exercises for the test.

i have also seem to have settled in with a workout partner. this has been a problem because there is a tendency for the girls to huddle up and work with people they already know. i've been odd girl out several times and there are a lot of girls that don't show up every time. however, the past two times i have been working out with this guy who is lifting much more than i am, but is pushing himself to the same extent. this is one way that i differ from my younger compatriots, in that i am completely beyond all of the cutesy friend/flirt stuff. i just want to get the job done. quite frankly, most of the girls in the class don't seem very serious. honestly, if i didn't really want to lift, i would have taken social dance or rockclimbing [1].it's ironic, because my partner for one of the early days (who i haven't seen since) is already at her ideal bodyfat ratio, whereas i'm off the chart in the other direction.

in other news, the numbers are finally starting to move in the right direction. i am considering the weights that i get at the gym to be in their own class, as they are on a different scale at a different time than my normal weigh-in time. the earliest ones were in the 212's and today's reading in class was finally under 210 at 209.8. that is a drop of .2, but that's in just 2 days. frankly, i would take less than that as long as the numbers keep going in the right direction. my fear now is that the extra calories i'm taking in because of the deep hunger is going to backfire on me. i actually ate a candy bar today and i have bought beverages with calories (although not hfcs). i would consider these both to be steps in the wrong direction, but i need to make sure that i can still cross campus under my own power.

[1] people, i cannot tell you how many cool p.e. classes there are here. these are a few off the top of my head that i would have loved to take: yoga, rockclimbing (the advanced class climbs mountains), orienteering, skiing, archery, martial arts, run conditioning. they also have bowling and golf, but i cannot stand either of those sports. i don't have the condition or hand/eye coordination for racquetball and tennis, but those would probably be fun as well. these kids are totally spoiled.
