ONEderful!
Jan. 18th, 2004 11:00 pmlittle tiny baby sylvia is one year old! i spent a lot of yesterday thinking of all the little things i was saying goodbye to. today was about celebrating progress and things to come. i spent all morning running around doing last minute things. however, during the party, i just had fun. sylvia is not walking, but she is really really close. our neighbors on the left with two boys got sylvia a walk and ride toy. sylvia had a blast with it, once laric was persuaded to give it up. our rightwards neighbors gave us a completely round frog that makes ribbity noises when you move it. we've pledged to give them an equally noisy toy for their upcoming offspring due on the fourth of july. it's really actually more cute than offensive. we got sylvia one of the audubon birds that makes an authentic bird call, so if we get everything going at once we could have quite a jungle effect going.
but back to the bday celebration. everyone had a blast. it was one of those parties where everything feels perfect. our house is not really that big and when kelvin (4), laric (20 mos) and sylvia (1!) get together, there's quite a noise. that's before you add in the new toys and the drum and xylaphone that sylvia got for christmas. it was a great big happy noise though and the adults were having a blast watching the kids. well, except for scott, dad to be, i think he was scared ;).
in addition to sylvia's first introduction to chocolate, she also got some of dad's chicken and corn soup and some of mommy's ice cream. she loves ice cream. i'm not sure why there was any doubt, other than her general indifference to solid food. it is wonderful to see her open her mouth wide like a little baby bird. after the party, sylvia had her nap. she woke up in the middle of it, very upset and in need of intense comforting. so, even though she is one year old and can drink cow milk and eat cupcakes and ice cream, she still needs her mommy to nurse her and hold her while she sleeps sometimes.
what a disjointed post. i'm going to leave it and worry about it some other time when i'm not busy being blissed out.
