Ok, so i tried to make sylvia some hard boiled eggs when she woke up from her nap[1]. there are 3 eggs remaining in the first carton. i squish one trying to take it out: egg demon 1/jenn 2. i take out the second carton of eggs to bring the total boiling up to 4: egg demon 1/jenn 3. during all this i am offering other foods to princess princess, which she is more or less rejecting. i decide to make her a fried egg real quick. she does not have a history of liking fried eggs, but we hadn't tried in a while and it seemed closest to hard boiled. sylvia eats a very small portion, but most ends up either on the floor. i eat most of the yolks, as i know she doesn't like them much and they're a little underdone: egg demon 1.5/jenn 3.5. i get the hard boiled eggs out of the pan and discover that one of them was cracked: egg demon 2.5/jenn 3.5, or 6 eggs used to create 3 hard boiled eggs in the fridge.
in other news, i was truly not expecting sylvia to nap that long this afternoon and ended up having no idea what to do with myself. i decided to read some of my latest Poets & Writers magazine and lucked upon a very interesting article about the likes/dislikes of various literary journals and contentedly dozed off on the couch (all together now) and then sylvia woke up. bah, i got at least a 15 minute nap, and i've still got half the article to read AND it reminded me that i had picked up a whole book on a similar topic at the latest FOTL sale.
to insert some remedial chronology the day went: wake/dress/breakfast/garden/errand/lunch/pick up laric/nap/snack(egg)/garden/random playing & bumming around/jeff :)/dinner with the mom's meetup (only one other mom made it, but we had fun)/bath(sylvia)/vegging in front of computer w/accompanying pisspoor attempt at poetry.
during the morning and afternoon garden sessions, i managed to get about half of my annuals planted. i have decided to go for saturation this year as i just want my garden beds planted already. i'm filling up a bare patch in my massive garden bed with Red Snapdragons with purplish foliage, purple salvia and white w/red center zinnias. i am planting them higgledy-piggeldy and it seems to be working well. i cannot believe how well the garden beds are coming together this year. the bed with a stone garden path is still looking strong with its spring combo of multicolored pansies, mammath daffodils, bluebells? scilla siberica, and the recent additions of red dianthus and centaurea. the ah, other garden bed (the front yard contains 4, one of which wraps around to become the side garden bed) i have filled in with 'butterfly garden' plantings including: flax surrounded by dusty miller (WOW), buddleia, salvia (the giant type), which seem to be going well with the preexisting coreopsis, rudbeckia and lamium. the back half of this bed has daylilies and azaleas which are truly outdoing themselves this year. add to that the magic effect of the birdbath and the round frog and i've got my own slice of heaven in the front yard. hopefully, the tomato plants in the backyard will provide their own slice of kitchen heaven. :)
in other news, sylvia continues to flourish, including vast amounts of walking. the *cringe* weaning process has definitely begun. we turned a corner the other day when i actually said 'no' to sylvia and offered her milk instead. it felt right, but i am still trying to follow her lead. definitely too complex an issue to sum up at the end of a lj post when i really need to be getting to bed.
also: applied for a job even though i told myself i could have a week not worrying about employment. they're looking for full-time though which i can't do until summer. sigh. i am not supposed to be worrying about this now. i think i'll veg out some more with my magazine.
