new day, new mood, long post.
Apr. 23rd, 2004 10:16 pmyesterday, i had been feeling somewhat down. i couldn't entirely place why, so i just went with it and followed my whims. this means that nothing got done around the house even though sylvia napped fairly well. my first impulse is to peg it as something chemical such as PMS (which would be something of a novelty at this point) but in any case, i was not going to let myself get stressed over feeling down. today has been much better and i can't decide if the chemical wave has passed or if it's because of actual goodness going on.
the day did not start out as auspiciously as it might have. sylvia and i started out after breakfast for jcpenneys only to discover that just because the entire mall has been demolished around them(1), doesn't mean they don't still keep mall hours. since it would be an hour till they opened, i didn't feel like waiting around and thought that it would be a bit of a waste to go home and then go back. stuck for choice, i went across the street to the grocery store to get salad veggies and more milk. this was a wise choice as i was still in a funk and did not feel up to going to the farmer's market in the afternoon which was the original plan. we went back home, wandered about in the garden a bit and then, noticing that it was just then 10 am, went back to jcpenney's to look for shoes. victory, i found a pair of new balance sneakers for only $20. her first sneaks that i had gotten at kmart had started to fall apart. i'd feel like i'd been too cheap except they were also now too small. le sniff. she's already gone up a shoe size. these definitely fit her better. i did the 'come to mama' test and she was obviously very comfortable in them. i considered a pair of stride-rites. they did light up, but they were $10 more and didn't seem to fit as well. although sylvia is growing enough to need new shoes, the shoelady could not stop talking about how small she was. i agree, she's a tiny baby, but she's doing just fine. i had been hoping to have time to get more sleepers too (again the amazing growing baby), but it looked like time was getting short for sylvia to have her morning mini-nap so we headed off home. i'm not sure why, but the new shoes seemed to have turned my luck and the day was nothing but goodness after that.
good thing the first: the realtor who has been trying to help me find within her office forwarded my resume over to a buddy of hers at a lending company. this is doubly good because one of the things i was in a funk over was how all of my lovely job leads seemed to have withered away.
good thing the second: i called up another childcare place, more or less at random. i had never heard of this place, and had no idea where it was other than being in our zip code somewhere. they have a lower rating (3/5 stars rather than 4/5 stars) but having seen what a 4 star place feels like, i'm thinking a lower rated joint might be better in some ways. i got a really good vibe from this place. the woman i spoke with was relaxed and friendly, did not bring up the fees first thing although they are quite reasonable. it looks like it would be fairly easy to find a job where i'd be making a profit after the cost of childcare & taxes. sylvia and i are probably going to head over after breakfast monday. i say 'probably' because they do tours any time you feel like showing up. the nice lady did advise me to avoid naptime, as there's not much to see, but said that other than that, 'come on over'. it is possible that i'll hate this place, but it sounds really nice already. the only bad thing is that they only have part time/drop off rates available when they're not full and that's not very common. there isn't any room there now, but should be by the time i need it.
good thing the third: out of the blue, i got a call from the realtor who i did a project for during tax season. i had just about decided that he'd dropped off the face of the earth, but apparently it really was chronic busyness and he wants me to do some more projects for him. i'm still not sure whether this will end up being long or short term, but it will do for now.
now, i've just got to stitch together the part time/full time maze and make sure that if i do get something full time for summer onwards, that it is a job that can taper back during tax season. ah, yes, and pass the EA exam, take a multitude of other tax courses, consider taking appraisal courses in the fall and write some damn good poetry.
(1) we temporarily have a standalone jcepenney's during extensive mall remodeling. it's quite a novelty
