wed afternoon ~12:00:
snow begins heavier than expected, which is no big surprise as the weatherpeople have a horrible track record
3 pm: jeff leaves work to pick up sylvia, daycare is closing at 4pm.
4 pm: i decide it would be best to get an early start out. the roads aren't too bad, as i'm using all big highways and not going the typical direction. i arrive on 540 still making a fairly good clip and question whether i was being a little silly for leaving early.
6 pm: i'm just about at the creedmoor rd exit, which i would typically take to get home, and jeff calls to tell me he cannot find a safe travel route from six forks and is abandoning his car at the wendy's and walking home. it is decided that the only way to get to sylvia in a car is for me to take the long way around 540. interestingly enough, this is my standard route and i usually arrive at the daycare at 5:30.
7 pm: still driving on 540
~8pm: pass the exit for six forks, the last exit before sylvia's day care which is at the falls of neuse exit.
11:30pm: arrive at sylvia's daycare. sylvia has just woken up and is very happy to see me. we snuggle down and sleep at the daycare.
-----
thursday 9:30am, our triumphal return home.
-----
random notes:
i did not go to work today. i am not sure how i am going to face dropping sylvia off at day care tomorrow. wednesday was supposed to be her first big day in the 2's room, and so i'm sure she's going to think we're going to leave her there until the wee hours of the night again :(.
-----
the falls of neuse exit looked like something out of the apocalypse. there are normally 3 lanes of traffic and instead there was one careful route left from the highway amongst the wrecked and abandoned vehicles.
-----
i did consider heading straight home from the daycare, but everything i had heard suggested that i would need to abandon the car about a mile from our house and walk an ice covered rd holding sylvia in 13 degree temps. oh yes, and there was the small concern that i had parked on the upper slope of an icesheet and would need to play steer into the skid with sylvia in the car.
