random update

feast or famine. i've got a bunch of mini-temp assignments to complete the next few days. it still won't make much of a difference in the bottom line, but at least it's something. this society needs to get a bit more flexible. i'm having a hard time finding non-menial work on the weekends. i am beginning to be serious about my joke that i'd go to work at home depot (garden dept, of course). we're still doing ok, but the plan was that i would be getting a lot more temp assignments at this point. we need to start looking for good day care, because sooner or later we will need it. we're firming up our plans and hoping that i can go back to work full time when sylvia is one. it doesn't seem like it's very long from now. i can apply for variants of my old position, but i'd really like to go into a new field. with h_postmortemus's job still under the merger shadow, it does not look like a good time to be thinking about finishing my bachelors.

enough grumping, good news time:
sylvia can sit! not for a very long period of time, i think her record is around 5 seconds, but it's an awe inspiring sight. it is hard for me to realize sometimes that this near-helpless state she is in right now is very temporary. last week, she was falling right over and now i'm noticing more and more that she is balancing herself when i hold her. i thought i was fooling myself, but it's clear that in addition to balancing, she's using her hands to reach for us. *sniff*
