ok, it's been awhile since i updated the 'ol journal. it turns out that my poor mood was caused only partly by the weather. i seem to have caught some sort of intestinal bug which is now gone. we're watching sylvia, but she seems ok so far. today we broke out the playard to see if sylvia could hang out while i gardened and neither jeff nor i would need to hold her. well, after a while it worked, but there were a few intermissions for diaper changes, feedings and 'why aren't you picking me up?' complaints. in the end, i had planted the front part of garden bed b? c? i really need to get some decent names for these garden beds. there are four in the front yard. i finally ripped out the pansies and replaced them with white impatiens and blue salvia. it looks just so-so now as the salvia haven't really started blooming yet. the white impatiens look incredible now that the sun has gone down. still to plant: coreopsis (tickweed), more salvia, a delightful mini-hosta and an herb. i remember i got it very deliberately, but can't remember which one it was. ah yes, it was also on sale -lavender! that's it. i was astonished to see such healthy lavender growing. it will go next to the rosemary in the side bed which is also contiguous with front garden bed c?d? maybe i'll name them, goofy, blinken, nod and mosquito patch. now i just need to figure out which is which.

job front: completed 4 jobs this week and i think i'm burned out on the mini-jobs. i applied online at home depot - gardening dept only please. we'll see how well that works out. i haven't written squat in ages. i hope to fix that soon, but you can't push the muse. i finally got confirmation of the money i am supposed to receive from nationwide. i have 2 kinds of pensions, defined benefit and a 401k. as i didn't know i even had a defined benefit pension until a year ago, i am planning to sacrifice it to the cause. the 401k and our 'real insurance' should take care of retirement needs.

CD review.
Johnny Cash: American IV, The Man Comes Around
incredible - from end to end unbelievable. johnny cash has some troubles. he has a chronic medical condition which leaves him vulnerable to pneumonia. he has shortness of breath which caused this album to be recorded in a number of small segments, but the result is a very strong album. the closest i can think of is 'o death' by ralph stanley. there are a number of unexpected covers, but not one is a gimmick. hurt originally by NIN will make you cry. actually, most of the songs will make you cry. cash's version of in my life makes the beatles look like amateurs. danny boy tends to be over the top, but he made it believable. and then there's his version of bridge over troubled water, again incredible. i'm going to be nice and not compare it to clay aiken's version. i mean clay's nice, but give him 50 years and i suspect his voice will be weaker, not stronger.

packaging:
shipped off borrowed maternity garb back to [livejournal.com profile] fizzgig_bites(sorry guys, another box to unpack) and shipped off my maternity stuffies to my sister along with the 'what to expect book' because well, she needs it bad. she was starting to scare my mom with some of her 'facts'. niece/nephew is still cooking away. the doc told her not to take her prenatals because her nausea was so bad, but i persuaded her to try to keep down at least the folic acid only pills i sent her.

mudding:
i have created a discworld character AND managed to stay online long enough to get it saved. this is an accomplishment. i'm sending out feelers to get a real life game...

WAAAAAAAAAHHH

Um, well, thanks I guess. Hey maybe somebody else will need them before we do and we can just ship the box off unopened! *snicker*

Tell your sister to look for prenatals (or even just regular vitamins) with less iron. Before [livejournal.com profile] fizzgig_bites was diagnosed with hypermesis gravidarium (sp), her OB tried her on one of them because the high doses of iron in normal prenatals can easily upset sensitive tummies.

I almost went wacko over the vitamin thing. My doctor said because I puking so much, I needed to take vitamins more than ever. If she can't handle the prenatals have her take everything but iron. On REALLY bad days I was woofing down Flintstones which worked really well and one of the formulas comes without iron. The doctor also had me on a B6 diet for awhile. I think it is B6 that helps a lot of people with nausea. It didn't work for me but might with her.

She should really get a different opinion. I hope she is eating nothing but the healthiest of foods. *cringe*

ugh, one can hope. she said the problem was that she just wasn't eating much at all because she didn't have interest in food, not that she was throwing up too much. this is another thing that a loving husband is good for, because [livejournal.com profile] h_postmortemus was real good at reminding me to eat. she said the doc was concerned that she was still losing weight. i think this is ridiculous as well as she is not a lightweight. i remember the nurse carefully reassuring me that it was ok to lose weight during the first trimester. i can only do so much from here. we had a long talk last week where i did a lot of, 'actually, no that's not correct'. i'm not sure how good her doc is. she does not have an incredible number of choices as she's going through medicaid.

My uneducated guess would be that the iron is clogging up her system. Iron made me constipated and the doctor told me to eat more fiber. Once my "slowness" eased up, I was hungry again. It also helped with the heart burn.
