spots are ok

yesterday, after bathtime, h_postmortemus discovered some blue pinprick sized spots on sylvia. it looked odd, but she has not been showing any other trouble signs (fever, listlessness, not being a really happy baby) so we decided to wait and see if they were still there today. well, they were. it's just on one leg, which was very intriguing to the doctors[1]. meningitis has been ruled out as have assorted nasty sounding metabolic disorders. it looks from the blood count like she might be on the mend from a mild virus which would make some sense. in the end, i was reassured that none of the really bad things the doc would look for are present, but to call immediately if the spots move, a fever develops or 'she changes a hair'. sigh. accidental smooshing and ill-handling have been ruled out. the ruling theory is that somehow she might have gotten her foot trapped in high chair or crib.

i miss two things: whiskey and peanut butter[1] and you know, today i had a small peanut butter sandwich. we can't all be perfect.

a memory

when i was a kid, middle/high school aged, i would play this trick on my mom many mornings. i would come up to her in the kitchen and give her a hug and then shut my eyes, slump and attempt to get a little more sleep. mind you, we're both standing in the kitchen, but it was precious snooze time. i am reminded of this as sylvia sleeps on top of me.
