sylvia and i turned a corner with the whole consonants thing. i know that it's just practice at this point, but i can tell she has been working really hard. every day she seems to have developed another skill and danger. she's started furiously reaching for things on our desks. having to babyproof my desk first is not good.
i keep thinking on and off that sylvia is teething. and it is quite possible that she is teething on and off just to drive me batty. today she was very upset and there was a new noise to her crying. the ring of power (cold purple teething ring) was helping, some. chewy bear was somewhat effective. i said to myself, 'ah, she's in pain, i can fix this,' and broke out the baby tylenol. 20 min later she's my happy baby, but i had also just changed her diaper. was i wrong? it hadn't been very long since i had changed it before and she's been known to, ah, increase output when she's upset. who knows? the rest of the day she was my sweet happy baby. we stared at the rain, both outdoors and in behind the glass entry door. we went to the post office.
last week's discussion about sleep in the mommy and me class made me a bit upset, but it also made me think and that has helped. at this moment in sylvia's development, she only needs one nap of 45 min to an hr around 3 in the afternoon. how do i know this? it's all she'll sleep and she is happy and perky before and after. i don't let her fall asleep nursing (well, not very often) and i have found that sometimes when awakened, she's upset and *hungry*. silly goose, so now i end up feeding her a bit more at a time and she sleeps a little longer when she does sleep. it seems she gets anywhere from 9-12 hrs of sleep a day. the books say 14.5 at this age. screw 'em.
sylvia is definitely ready for solid food. as in, hold the food back if you want to eat it. i'm glad. we're still waiting till her 6 mo birthday, but that's only a little over 2 weeks from now. in the meantime, she is not starving. we've gotten her new carseat which is good, because she's right at the height limit for her infant seat. and frankly, she's getting a bit heavy to hold her in the car seat at any rate. we ended up getting the Triumph V carseat instead of the alpha omega. the reviews were a lot better and the price was lower. imagine that.
i've only got 2 more sessions of the mommy and me class left. it's tempting to re-up and there are other moms who have done it, but sylvia would be about 7.5-8mos by the time we're done and i've seen kids of that age in the class. note use of the word kids not babies. they are far too mobile. instead i'll look for classes at my gym and swimming classes. i can't wai...
WHAAA!
and thus ends tonight's crib session. hmm, perhaps she does get a later nap that we have been construing as not sleeping through the night. tough to say. i really don't care. she's happy. per
h_postmortemus she did not sound as unhappy when she awoke. perhaps she is getting used to this. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm - the keyboard menace
