sylvia has reached the 'playing in her room by herself stage'. she shut the door a while ago and i went in to check on her and she was playing quietly with her castle. of course, observing changes the motion of the observed and she had to come out and see me. but now she's playing happily in the computer room with part of the castle and the sacrificial 'toys'[1] that we let her play with in here.

[1] this category includes measuring tape, a weird rubber thing i got as an employee geegaw at nationwide, a spare cell phone, a plastic cup and a few actual toys that have migrated in here somehow.

1. Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, find line 4. Write down what it says:
"While many chapbooks have been and are being published off the radar, chapbook publication.."

2. Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What do you touch first?
Dark wooden blinds covering our computer room windows. I had originally thought that pale wood would go better with the colors in this room, but it was a really good sale and they were out of pale wood. I'm now glad that we went with the darker color as it creates a very calm soothing effect in the summer.

3. What is the last thing you watched on TV?
A snippet of "Good Morning America".

4. WITHOUT LOOKING, guess what time it is:
12:47

5. Now look at the clock, what is the actual time?
12:49

6. With the exception of the computer, what can you hear?
Sylvia banging on the closet door with her little plastic phone.

7. When did you last step outside? what were you doing?
About an hour ago to greet [livejournal.com profile] h_postmortemus coming home for lunch. It is his birthday and I showered him with the pieces of the flower lei that Sylvia deconstructed.

8: Before you came to this website, what did you look at?
That was probably yesterday, as I open tabs and read them when I can. I'll pull out a random tab instead, demand more capybara and/or stuffed sloth!

9. What are you wearing?
Grandfather Mountain sweatshirt, jeans, no socks. Although it is gotten cold outside again, I have decided that, in my heart, it is too springlike to wear socks.

10. Did you dream last night?
Nope. Went to sleep around 1pm, Sylvia woke up around 2:30 am and was nursing more or less continuously after that. She's having either a massive growth spurt, teething or both.

11. When did you last laugh?
Probably the last time Sylvia giggled at me.

12: What is on the walls of the room you are in?
Clockwise, from the aforementioned blinds:

  • "The Creative Circumplex", a nifty chart from Issue 49 of Speculations, p 15 (that's what is says on the bottom, I found it online somewhere) that shows the stages of creativity, "Entry, Craft, Challenge, and Travel". It's really rather encouraging about the creative process.

  • A signed print by Ursula Vernon of a "Nallwug" a primitive creature that lives in eternal hope of a surprise party.

  • A rather artsy cat calendar that my mom sent me for my birthday.

  • A vast swath of magnetic poetry.

  • Also, a fish mobile hanging from the ceiling.

13. Seen anything weird lately?
yes

14. What do you think of this quiz?
very interesting with the exception of questions 17 & 18.

15. What is the last film you saw?
Lord of the Rings, Return of the King. (finally)

16. If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy first?
our house

17. Tell me something about you that I don't know:
I think this question is pretty lame.

18. If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do?
I'm skipping this question on the grounds it belongs in a beauty contest, not a fairly nice quiz.

19. Do you like to dance?
I like to bop about randomly to tunes. There is some dispute whether or not this is actually dancing.

20a. Imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her?
Already happened, she's Sylvia Denali

20b. Imagine your first^^^second child is a boy, what do you call him?
No names are revealed until the theoretical child emerges.

21. Would you ever consider living abroad?
Visiting yes, but I think I'd be too homesick to live abroad for any vast length of time.

the question is, can't i just start writing without updating my lj first?

today is [livejournal.com profile] h_postmortemus's birthday so i was trying to do stuff for him as much as i could during the day. sadly, he had to work, but he doesn't have to work friday so that's going to be a makeup day. today was the 'birthday evening' as i do have to work friday night. anyways, i got him a small, but stellar example of crystalline pottery. it was a tough choice to get the riffer a breakable item, but he really seemed to appreciate it as it is both geeky and beautiful. i gave it to him when he came home for lunch. we had a brief, private birthday break complete with mini-hawaiian theme. i made him wear his lei back to work :).

for his birthday dinner we went to cheesecake factory. oh my. that was very good. too stuffed to write more, but i must mention that sylvia continued her trend of eating vast quantities and i think this is definitely a growth spurt. i think she was completely stunned by how good the whip cream on top of our cheesecakes was. the cheesecakes weren't too shabby either. mmm, dutch! apple! streusal! cheesecake! ok, i think i'll go write now. must work on my pantoum generator.
