growing pains
we spent a lot of this weekend babyproofing. i'm not sure that we accomplished that much, but we've put a good start on it.
h_postmortemus spent most of his time trying an assortment of locks for the drawers of sylvia's dresser. i'd like to think that it helped, but i keep forgetting they're there and still managing to open the drawers. i spent my day learning how to install a doorknob. it's almost done, and i think i did a pretty good job chiseling and dremeling out a new hole for the um, plate by the latch (if i am sent to hell, i am going to have a long talk with the person who wrote the directions for this little project.). it looks good, but the ah, opposite plate on the door frame is being held on by scotch tape. yep, that's what happens when a geek is too lazy to even get duct tape.
the furniture has been partially rearranged in preparation for the big move. sylvia will be six months old on the 18th and that's been our rough idea of when we'll move her crib into her room. she's still not sleeping in her crib terribly often, so we decided it doesn't much matter where it is. i haven't put her in her crib to sleep in days. we're now 92% sure that she is teething and it seems like she's got enough troubles to worry about. she's not babbling as she has been, but she did say 'daddy'. ok, technically it was something like daddyahhneeeahhh, but it counts. especially as she was looking right at papa at the time :).
it seems like all the sudden, she's hit the limits on all of the 'baby' stuff. the baby bath is getting a bit small, so last night, i took a bath with her, just for the fun of it. it went pretty well, except for the accidental dunking. whoops. it wasn't too bad, before i knew it she was coughing up the excess water and not really too upset. that's good because we start swimming class in 2 weeks :)
but wait, there's more - tonight i bought food for sylvia for the first time. one box of rice cereal and two jars of organic bananas. it's the end of an era. *sniff* we're most likely going to start this weekend. it'll be a week shy of her sixth month birthday, but the grabbing for food has gotten too blatant to ignore. i am torn. i really need for her to get food from some source other than me, but i am ridiculously proud of how much she's grown on pure mama's milk. that and i'm not looking forward to increased diaper stinkiness ;).

Buying bananas in jars? Gabe gets his fork-mashed, and doesn't seem to mind. Cheaper, too. Just a thought. The diaper stinky stops being 'offensive' to you real fast, so don't worry about that too much.
Congrats on pure nursing this long. She'll let you know when it's time to quit completely, just remember that solids at this stage are more learning how to eat than nutritional.
Glad to hear things are going so well!

It is amazing how similar Sylvia and Anna are. Good for you about the nursing. If Sylvia bites you while that tooth is coming in, use medical grade lanolin. It often helps if you put it on before the "big chomp" because the greasiness will prevent some of the abrasive pain. Even better is if you can read the signs (nipping I called it) and avoid it. Don't let her play even though it is cute and adorable. I miss nursing (9 days without a nip) *bummed*.

The good news is there seems to be breaks and it does get easier until the molars which get kinda rough again.
Lots of snuggles and Motrin. Motrin is much better than Tylenol for tooth pain. When Sylvia is old enough, you may want to try Motrin and see if it works better for Sylvia. Oregel was pointless for us.
Good job
