we were supposed to go to trinoc-con tonight for a quick grab the badge and scout around before our main mission this weekend. we got going late, used poor directions and were lost for 2 hrs in durham. i hate durham. it's poorly lit, poorly labeled and everything looks like it's falling apart. we might go back tomorrow. our membership is prepaid and our hotel room reserved, but i feel like i asked way to much of jeff and am not willing to go through another nightmare like that. i called the hotel (which i should have done in the first place) and got directions which not only sound better but also sound familiar.

i probably wouldn't even have bothered but this week has been such a washout. we didn't go swimming tuesday because thunder closed the pool. i was really looking forward to jeff being able to splash with sylvia. wednesday, sylvia and i skipped class because it was grey and rainy. the last time we went during those conditions, sylvia started crying because of the cold. thursday we were going to either try swimming again or go to games galore for a night of gaming with the TUGA group (too tired to do nifty links, refer to earlier posts). well, it was raining again, and jeff was too tired to try to go to TUGA. so when tonight rolled around, even though things were looking bad, i was determined. i am an idiot. durham is not a city to fuck with without very very good directions.

I was planning to go around lunchtime tomorrow (Saturday) to get there by 1 for the Watt-Evans signing (or at least, that's what I've heard the schedule is). I know Durham reasonably well (lived there growing up and still go to the Durham Arts Center periodically (next door to the Marriott)), but I now live in NW Raleigh. I don't know where you are in Raleigh, but if you'd like, I'd be happy to meet you around 12:30 somewhere easy-to-find in NW Raleigh (e.g. Leesville Commons (540 and Leesville) or the Brier Creek mall (on 70 just past 540)) from which you could follow me into Durham.

You can send me an email at andyhat@computer.org or call me at 844-8910 if you're interested (please don't call before 11am or so, though; I sleep late on Saturdays).
