when last seen, our heroes were trying to decide whether to go to see North by Northwest" at the NC Museum of Art (movies on the lawn). [livejournal.com profile] h_postmortemus's aunt is currently in the hospital and it might be something very serious or eveything could be ok. either way, bad for zathros. sorry, it's not a good situation. we're trying to juggle some really expensive last minute airline tickets, a dear relative, a commitment to a friend to take care of her kids, a fairly tense job environment, and a 6.5 mo old child. anyways, after talking with aunt patty, jeff was feeling a bit better and i really wanted to see a movie for its classic escapist properties (or as many are present when one takes ones cellphone). we were going to leave at 8 in order to get there early and set up our blanket, but we decided we could leave as late as 8:30 and still make it there ok. at 8:30 we decided to leave and got blanket, beverages and popcorn popped. everyone was in the car by 8:41, cue the sky kaboom. yep, thunder. we decided to ignore the first vague rumbling, but by the time sylvia was belted in we had already decided to reroute to blockbuster to pick up the dvd. blockbuster was out, so i searched around and noticed the film Notorius, also by hitchcock and about as close as you could get to the original film, at least alphabetically.

the scene is set. night falls (lights are turned out), the blanket is laid out on the lawn (rug/carpet), tasty beverages and preprepared snacks are taken from the bag. the audience was lucky that whenever sylvia needed to be changed there was a break in the film which took the projectionist just enough time to fix. midway through the film, chocolate ice cream was acquired from the concessions stand. all in all, a good atmosphere and absolutely no mosquitoes! oh, and the film itself? hitchcock, as always, is a genius. see this film. you'll laugh (obvious crease in the backdrop), you'll cry (no spoilers), you'll be carried away for something over an hour and a half. and now, to do more research on airline tickets pbbttt.

I know airlines do something called 'bereavement rates' which are basically cheaper last-minute fares for obvious reasons. It may be worth talking to one and asking if bad illness counts as something you can get a cheaper ticket because of.

Morbid I know, but I had a need to know this kind of stuff
