i've decided more or less impromptu to organize the CD collection. while i'm doing this, i decided to use the nifty tivo music player to check which CDs i have already burned so i can just make one pass through the music collection. this is a wonderfully efficient idea, but i think i've only got 20% or so burned already so it's taking awhile. sylvia was helping morale by grooving with her train set while i went through CDs, but eventually she needed a new diaper, some food and a nap. all has been taken care of and she's now sleeping with papa :). the burning is going very slow and i'm definitely going to be spending some time drawing up specs for a new computer. it will be quite some time before i'm comfortable with actually purchasing one though. part of me is hearing the siren song of a laptop with a wireless network, but that will be more expensive and hinder future upgrades.

i did not post a memorial message for johnny cash, but did have my own memorial which consisted of playing my 3 cd set for sylvia and laric yesterday. gotta get some culture into these kids ;). the man in black, was and is incredible. one of the compulsions for the sudden organizing session is that i could not find American IV yesterday which is cash's last album containing 'hurt' and a rather stirring rendition of 'we'll meet again'. it's on the burn schedule now. (revised, i'm not completely among the lost, i had already burned this, just couldn't locate the physical cd yesterday).

i cannot believe all of the albums that i haven't recorded yet. besides the cash, i have on the burn stack: inxs, tom petty, depeche mode, star wars, r.e.m., iron butterfly, joan osbourne, sting, janis joplin, jimmy buffett, gordon lightfoot, trio, yo-yo ma, k.d. lang, deep forest, etta james, poi dog pondering, amadeus, famous opera duets, margaritaville cafe, oasis, blade runner, peter gabriel, jonny lang, pickin on the movies (just burned 'pickin on the beatles), and the adventures of priscilla, queen of the desert.

this weekend's theoretical projects include: making the rest of the cinnamon oatmeal cookies i whipped up the batter for yesterday, mowing the lawn, cleaning out the gutters, vacuuming, exchanging baby gate and installing new one, reorganizing spice cupboard, planning for anniversary trip/running to the mountains to avoid isabel, cleaning out fridge, random gardening, and oh yes, catching up on my tax homework, ergh.

that's just the stack which will reasonably fit on my desk. i haven't even gone through the cds which are actually in the case.

You /may/ want to consider something like ID3-TagIt for the ripped music. That way you can add all sorts of funky info to the file in case you ever want to play it on an mp3 player than can read the ID3 tags. I only mention this as it's a lot easier to do album by album.

It includes things like date of track, genre (so you can select all of a genre), etc etc.

for now, i am using real jukebox, which sucks in many ways, but does grab the info for each cd. i'm planning to go back when i'm done and try to correct the few that haven't been id'd.

Dear RIAA,

No, she is not burning CD-Rs of illegally traded music. She is ripping MP3s of legitimately purchased official CDs.

Now go sue some more 12-year old girls...
