another busy day
May. 9th, 2004 12:04 ammorning: last minute shopping for baby shower
afternoon: the baby shower for my rightwards neighbor. the leftwards neighbor is the one who already has 2 kids. anyways, it was a nice shindig, although it would have been nice if it had been at her house rather than across town. the hostess thought it would be nice if the honoree did not have to clean her house. as a previous shower recipient i thought it was nice that i didn't have to go anywhere :p. i got her a boppy which gave me all kinds of warm feelings as sylvia and i have spent so much time in boppyland. i also gave her some hand-me-downs from sylvia (le sniff). it doesn't seem possible that she's big enough to have hand-me-downs, but there you are. (
heathrow, etc drop me a line if you'd like any of sylvia's too small stack. rest assured, i've got my box of keep forever clothes secured.). anyways, a good time and multiple snacks were had by all, veggies, fruit, snack, cheese, cake. sylvia stayed home with
h_postmortemus because her name was not on the invite and i really didn't think i'd actually get to attend much shower if i took her. happily, she went down for her nap just before i left and did not wake up until shortly before i got back.
evening: h&r block banquet. again, sylvia did not attend. this time she stayed home with the leftwards neighbor. they shuttled back between houses in order to put the youngest to sleep and then the oldest came over to play with sylvia without his little brother around. i owe the neighbor an evening out which i will provide gladly, she deserves it. it won't be too hard as jeff will take care of sylvia while i take care of her two who will be sleeping for much of the evening, unlike miss sylvia who was still up when we arrived home at 10pm, sigh. but back to the banquet. a high class shindig, the consensus dress seemed to be dressy casual, i.e. almost impossible to nail down. however, the theme was mardi gras and while i was at walmart i found a sparkly tanktop that seemed to fit the bill perfectly. i had 2 very highly overpriced whiskeys, but i paid the price gladly. it has been a long time since i have known that a) i would not be around sylvia for hours and b) i had someone to drive me home. again, the food was veggies, fruit, cheese, but this time there was more of a main course. the chicken was delicious, although i was amused that the 'non-pork' dish was covered with sausage and shrimp. i didn't mind, but i could see how anyone really trying to make a dietary choice could have been quite upset. dessert was choice of cheesecake, chocolate cake, red velvet cake, etc. all were tasty, just ask jeff ;). i could add more details to this, but basically i had fun. i didn't win any door prizes, but they were done in a fun way so it was fairly amusing. my once and future cow-orkers and spouses are all friendly people and it was nice to see them again. just having a night out was fun in it's own way. i managed to ask jeff what time it was less than a dozen times and we didn't call home once ;).
when we returned, sylvia was still awake, so she got to enjoy her balloon for a bit before she went off to slumberland.
