i picked sylvia up to hug her and let her fall asleep on me because she was getting too tense. she fell asleep and i put her back in her car seat. she woke up, but then her lids fell shut because she was just too sleepy. she's in her car seat and not her crib, but i think we're making progress. we did also have some time playing with the tunnel of doom (tm) so it hasn't all been trauma today.

When Anna was that little, we would let her sleep in the car seat and just put the car seat in the crib. Waking up was traumatic but we were desperate.

Another thing we did (and I had totally forgotten about this) was to put her in one of those bouncy chairs. (Quick google search gave me this.) This was definitely against manufacturer directions, but, like she said, we were desperate.

Leslie spent many a night sleeping on the futon with one arm hung over the side rocking that frelling thing...

I haven't forgotten it. I got very good at bouncing Anna in that thing while sleeping. It was the only sleep I got, even if it was shallow sleep. It wasn't against manufacture instructions. The only instruction that was in question was the "Don't leave your baby while she is strapped in this thing." Does sleep count? I didn't count it because if there was a problem the noise, scream or whatever would wake me up. My face was a foot away at most.

I'd like to remind Ed of how many batteries we went through in that thing and the meltdown of when it wouldn't start vibrating because of bad batteries.

we tried a bouncy seat and found that sylvia hated it. we traded it in for a swing and that kept her content enough so that we could eat or make dinner, but she doesn't fall asleep in it. i was actually quite afraid of having a battery dependent baby. i resisted getting even the swing for her, but gave in as it can also be operated without batteries. i've been reluctant in general to allow sylvia to develop a dependency on things. the toy hunt was a big step, because i could see that she needed these things for development.

Kids or at least Anna isn't very interested in battery operated toys. They are good at getting her attention but not very good at keeping it. The cats on the other hand are good at keeping it.

"Spot! Run Spot run! Anna's going to get your tail. Anna, watch Spot run. Bye Spot."

Then there is poor Toi. Toi is 18 years old and slow moving. HE gets tackle hugged a lot. Anna damn near squishes him to death.
