i know, this has been a truly ridiculous saga, but such is the life of the lj.

Regardez Brooks Addiction. Is that not a wonderful name?

i did get them at the running store around the corner, and the price on the website is more or less the price i paid. i'm glad i went there to try them on because the adidas shoes which i was eyeing turned out to be an absolute no-go with my high arches. these shoes are not incredibly snazzy, but they are not ugly and i do like the purple stripes.

i ended up going up a half-size and was interested to note that is advised on the shoe website as well. my usual size fit just so, with no margin whatsoever and the shoe guy reminded me that running feet tend to expand.

the best part was that when i went out on the sidewalk for a test run, i found myself actually doing a very small amount of running. i thought i'd forgotten how. that's quite a hopeful step. i also wore them during our trip to BJ's (big box, hard concrete floors). my feet definitely noticed it was a hard floor, but they did not hurt even at the end of the trip. i am sure these shoes will do much better on an actual trail.

thank you all for indulging my sharing this bizarre life segue with me. i'm still not entirely sure what my work schedule will be after this semester and that will have a large part to do with my schedule for any sort of theoretical running (or more likely walking). let me know if you would like to be in any type of exercise filter should i create one.

glad you like the shoes. my dad used to run (who knows, maybe he still does) and used to swear by brooks. he has very narrow feet and higher arches and has a hard time finding shoes that fit right. also, if the arches aren't high enough, you can add arch supports underneath the insole (not the big clunky kind, but a small foam support that sticks to the underside of the insole).

i'm sure you will do well with the running. when i started a bunch of years ago i went from walking to jogging two miles non-stop in a month or two. wind sprints are your friend. your friend that you would like to take out behind a 7-11 sometime and grind into the glass and leave for dead, but a friend. (now all i need is the motivation and time to start doing this again.)

curiously enough, my next post is about an 8 week program designed to build up to running 2 miles nonstop. let us not talk about wind sprints ;).

time i can't help you with, but if you would like to be my virtual running buddy, that would be fine.

Welcome to my personal hell. I must have missed something, but why are you being forced to buy such expensive shoes? In my case, it's because normal shoes don't come in sizes for mutants like me (14EEEE).

And go ahead and add me to whatever filter you'd like. ;)

several reasons

1. i need to KNOW that these shoes are not going to cause bizarre pains after i have worn them for some time. i want GOOD shoes that will not cripple me as i put my feet through severe stress.

2. i weigh (slightly) over 200 lbs. this means that there is a lot of impact.

3. i wanted to shoes that make me feel excited to put them on. this means having shoes that are somewhat stylish.

Your saga has given me the motivation to get rid of the sneakers-from-hell and get a new pair. With Anna changing pre-schools, we are moving her to the Y and leaving the J, and that means we can afford workout place with child-care. The J does not do this and the Y does. So, I got new sneakers and hopefully I will stop slamming my toes in the front of the shoe.

Good luck with the new shoes. I like the purple. Maybe I will try Brooks next. I never thought of myself as having high arches but sneakers are the only comfortable shoes out there short of bare-foot. Maybe I do have high arches.

whee, new shoes! jeff, sylvia and i took a walk this afternoon, but tomorrow i start the 8 week program with 'rest'. heh, i suppose that is to be consistent with the remaining weeks, but it strikes me as a silly way to start.

i had never heard of brooks before i started doing the research. i like the idea that they are putting the money into the shoes rather than the advertising. i would definitely try a lot of shoes on. this store i went to, the guy observed that i was rolling my feet inwards (over-pronating) and then pointed me towards the shoes with 'blue' tags on the shelf. obviously, different places will do things differently. i also found an online website that diagnosed the same thing by the wear pattern on the bottom of my shoes. i always wear the back out first which is another symptom of the 'over-pronator'. interestingly enough, the shoe guy has completely flat feet and also needs to use this kind of shoe. the main symptom of my high arches is that my foot doesn't fit under the shoe completely with classic clog styles. it's pretty obvious. with the adidas shoes, the only way that i would have been able to tie the laces is if i had left them very loose. it looked from the top like i needed a wider shoe, but there was plenty of room on the sides.

Thanks, I went looking and I am a under-pronator. I wear the backs of my shoes very quickly. I kick to the side while walking. I think maybe I am high arched. I have always been wide front, narrow back, and few shoes ever fit well. It may also explain that no matter how hard I try, I can't wear high heeled shoes to save my life.

Hooray!

1. The shoes are fab! Very snazzy!
2. Put me on training filter, I have one of those too.
3. You want to start training? Good on ya'! I'll be whatever support you want me to be or else just listen/watch.
4. If you do want a community, check out [livejournal.com profile] forced_reps, it is an f-list community started by [livejournal.com profile] solelo, very low key and not judgmental.
